The Horniman Museum and Gardens in south east London brings together global cultures and the natural world. Our internationally important collections include anthropology and musical instruments, alongside a natural history gallery and Aquarium. The 16-acre Gardens feature a tropical Butterfly House and stunning views across London.

About the Role

We are looking for a proactive HR Administrator to join our HR team for three months. You will help keep HR processes running smoothly, including maintaining staff records, supporting recruitment and onboarding, handling routine HR queries, and assisting with employee relations by preparing paperwork and taking minutes for formal meetings. This is an excellent opportunity to develop your HR experience in a friendly, fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain accurate employee records on Cascade and the staff intranet.
  • Prepare HR documents such as contracts, offer letters, and change forms.
  • Support recruitment, including posting adverts, arranging interviews, and completing pre-employment checks.
  • Assist with onboarding and mandatory training for new starters.
  • Respond to routine HR queries and escalate when necessary.
  • Provide administrative support for employee relations, including preparing packs and taking minutes.

About You

You will be organised, accurate, and confident using IT systems. You will enjoy detail-focused work, handling confidential information professionally, and supporting a variety of HR tasks.

Key Skills and Experience

  • Strong administrative skills with good literacy and numeracy.
  • Experience in HR administration, including supporting employee relations with meeting paperwork and minutes.
  • Knowledge of HR and payroll processes and experience using HR systems (Cascade).
  • Confident IT user, particularly with Microsoft Office and Excel.
  • Accurate, organised, and able to handle sensitive information professionally.
