About the Role

The Horniman Archivist manages the Horniman Archive, which contains records related to the Horniman’s history and the Horniman’s collections, providing access and engagement to the archive. The Archive and Archivist support the Horniman’s exhibition, research and engagement activities.

Key Responsibilities

As Horniman Archivist you will have a wide range of responsibilities, all with the aim of making the archive as available and engaged with as possible. You will influence what enters the archive and what is prioritised for presentation. You will care for the physical and digital archive, preserving it and protecting it both for the future and in line with data protection requirements.

You will support researchers, staff and the wider public in accessing the archive, and support volunteers who will assist you in this.

You will play a critical role in advising the Horniman on Records Management and Archival best practice.

About You

You will enjoy giving access to archival resources to diverse groups, while managing an archive that is growing in scale and significance.

Key Qualities, Skills, and Experience

The successful candidate will have a graduate qualification in a Library and Information Science, Records Management or Archival related subject, or equivalent working experience in a knowledge organisation setting. 

The closing date for completed applications is 10am on Tuesday 7th April 2026. Interviews will be held on Tuesday 5th May 2026.
