Visitor Host - Full-time and Part-time

  • Full-time: 37.5 hours per week - Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday & Saturday
  • Part-time: 14.5 hours per week - Saturday and Sunday

About Us

The Horniman Museum and Gardens is a unique attraction in south-east London where global cultures and the natural world are brought together for everyone to enjoy. The Museum holds internationally important collections of anthropology and musical instruments, as well as a popular natural history gallery and Aquarium. The 16 acres of beautiful Gardens feature a tropical Butterfly House and offer stunning views across London.

About the Role

Greeting visitors and enthusiastically delivering an excellent visitor experience to a diverse range of people, especially families and young children. Providing invigilation across the galleries, assisting with information and wayfinding.

Key Responsibilities

  • Offer a welcoming, friendly and engaging visitor experience to all visitors
  • Greet customers warmly on arrival, assist with wayfinding, and check tickets for paid exhibitions
  • Build rapport with our visitors, encouraging them to visit galleries and take part in events
  • Explain proactively and enthusiastically the collections, stories and mission in ways that entertain, inform and engage our visitors

About You

We are looking for enthusiastic individuals with a passion for engaging with people and delivering an excellent visitor experience. You will enjoy meeting new people, especially families and young children, and be able to bring our wide range of collections to life through clear and engaging communication.

Key Qualities, Skills, and Experience

You should be friendly and approachable, providing a warm welcome and responding naturally to visitors’ needs. Previous experience in a museum setting is not required, but you should have experience in a visitor-facing role delivering excellent customer service with confidence and enthusiasm.
